Here’s what we’ll do together
Therapy can help you heal from the past
ADHD is not the sole reason for those challenges. Taking in other people’s perceptions of you as truth contributes to those challenges. For example, if a person was bullied in middle school, and/or was told they were “dumb” and “weird” and “lazy,” they may believe those things about themselves now.
A common experience of folks with ADHD is negative messages about their school performance or simply a sense of failure. Now we now that accommodations in school for folks with ADHD/ADD is important and that we all learn in different ways.
AND… life can be hard sometimes. In response to difficult time, a person with ADHD, a person may punish themselves, “I’m flawed, I’m a bad friend, I’m not good at….such and such.”
Dealing with ADHD can also contribute to analyzing everything and being paralyzed with fear of not doing things correctly or not being good enough.
In therapy areas that can be addressed are:
accepting your feelings (‘good’ and ‘bad’)
recognizing when you are judging yourself harshly
learning and practicing how to regulate your emotions
getting support for everyday life challenges
using organizational tools that help you
accepting that you may need more time to complete tasks
looking at patterns in your relationships
At the end of the day, I want you to know:
Past experiences don’t have to continue holding you back.
What we’ll work on
Imagine a life where…
Your relationships feel harmonious and reciprocal.
Work doesn’t feel overwhelming.
You’re connected to yourself and feel free to be you.
Your past no longer keeps you stuck.
Change is possible.
